Truck Show This Saturday!
“The Convoy for Kids” Truck Show will be rolling into Mason City’s Memorial Park on Saturday, June 20th. Trucks should start arriving after 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning with the Truck Show officially opening at 11:00 a.m. The Truck Show is put on by brothers Russ & Jim Harris of Mason City.
This is the eighth year for the show. The show raises money for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Truckers, who have pride in their ride, will be showing off their shiny chrome and polished rigs for the public to enjoy. Canisters will be placed in front of each truck for voting. Votes will be cast for your favorite rig. Each penny counts as one vote (but dollars are better). It will be a great day for families to come out and see the big rigs that go up and down our great nation’s highways every day. Again this year, anybody attending the truck show can get a free swimming pass the day of the show! Free swim passes can be picked up at the registration area.
There will be inflatable bounce houses for the kids to enjoy as well as vendors for the adults to enjoy.
New this year will be a Dunk Tank with locals donating their time for you to dunk, such as Blazer Bell from Do Drop In and John Stewart Fire Chief at MCFD, plus others willing to taunt you for your money.
This year will also have a Cheer for a Cure performance. The Illini Central High School Cheerleaders hosted a summer cheer clinic and the girls will be performing a cheer they learned (proceeds from the clinic will be going to the Mason City St. Jude Run Team).
If you don’t have a semi, but have something cool to show (car, motorcycle, antique tractor, etc.), please bring it and join in on the fun!
The show is expecting to draw 50-75 trucks and over 1000 people to attend. There will be food vendors, games and activities scheduled. There is also going to be a 50/50 Drawing, Raffle along with entertainment.
Food vendors include the St. Jude Run Team cooking Pork Chops, the Community Chapel serving Pulled Pork and Taste of Chicago offering a wide variety of food for you to enjoy. Food vendor spots are full, but we are still looking for other vendors to display their products. It is a Truck Show, but truckers have families and everyone there would enjoy shopping for their family too. Anyone who would like to be a vendor (last year Pampered Chef and Tupperware were a big hit) or donate to our Silent Auction or Raffles should contact Jim at 217-899-2709.
Trophy winners will be announced at 4:00 p.m. At approximately 5:00 p.m. the Truckers Convoy Parade will begin with the route running from the park toward the school. The evening will end with the free to all Trucker’s Supper being sponsored by Hull’s Trucking and Mason County Transfer after the parade. Also, be sure to bring some canned goods and/or perishable food items, those will then be donated to the Mason City Lawn Mower Fun Run (also being held on Saturday, June 20th) that benefits Mason City Food Pantry (the Fun Run should be parading through the Truck Show around 3:30 p.m.).
