A downtown Mason City diner that has been popular for decades, even as it changed names, owners, and locations, is entering the next phase. Dos Amigos Restaurant at the corner of Chestnut and Tonica Streets will greet the new year as the “Do Drop In Café.”
Purchasing the recently remodeled restaurant from the Bradshaw family is Blazer Bell, a nineteen year old Mason City native who has worked as a server/cook at Dos Amigos for four years.
“I always wanted to work in a restaurant, and I’ve had the dream to own one for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy the work, especially being around people.”
Opening day under the new ownership is January 2nd. Visitors will enjoy the same home cooked and Mexican dishes they are accustomed to, prepared and served up by the same staff. Bell will continue to cook and serve.
“The hours will be expanded,” Bell says. “We’ll be open seven days a week: Monday thru Saturday from 5:00 am until 8:00 pm, and Sunday from 6:00 am thru 2:00 pm. We’ll be adding some appetizers and sandwiches to the menu, and there will be daily specials.”
The restaurant will begin featuring Coke products, as well, and 2:00 pm to 4:00, Monday thru Saturday, will be “Happy Hour,” with free coffee or tea with every slice of pie.
“I want to recognize my grandparents, Jim and Marilyn Bell, and send them a big thank you,” says the young entrepreneur. “They help me a lot, and they helped to make this happen.”
Bell also appreciates the community and all his well wishers. He hopes to see the restaurant remain a popular eatery into the future.
