He did it!
Nels Matson, who set out to raise awareness of congenital heart defects (CHD) and enough money to pay for seven open heart surgeries for children in Cambodia, reached his goal. Mason City and the surrounding area helped him collect the $21,000 needed. And on his quest he intruduced many people to the needs of children with CHD.
The high school wrestling coach and gongenital heart defect survivor ran from Bradenton Florida to the Cambodian Embassy in Washington DC in 35 days as an ambassador for Hearts Without Boundaries. Nels is the son of Shari and Kevin Matson, former residents of Mason City.
